Greetings from Luanshya!
The rains are here in earnest! Yesterday we had an afternoon storm that was so severe that trees snapped like matchsticks and several houses lost their roofs. Fortunately, our house, the Lighthouse Children's Home, The Christian Resource Centre and Fellowship Chapel all survived with minimal damage, though there are small repairs needed on each building. The good news is that we finished the cover for the septic tank just two hours before the storm hit so that was a job completed "in the nick of time!" We should finish the "soak away pit" in the next couple of days - weather permitting!
Sherry has been "doubling up" with the discipleship classes with Sarah Bwalya. While Sarah was away on her teaching practical she completed several of the books. Now that she is home Sherry is going through the lessons with her helping her to fully understand the teaching in the books. Sarah is soaking up the information. Please continue to pray for her spiritual growth. Also pray that John and Sarah will be successful in being posted in the Luanshya District next school year.
The Chapel is buzzing with activity these days in preparation for the Vacation Bible School which begins on 15th December. Sherry has her team organised to work on back drops for skits, craft projects for classes, music and lessons for the teachers to present and the scripts are ready for the daily drama presentations. Every corner of the building will be utilised - which emphasises the need for a newer, bigger building. We are looking forward to a great week!
Tomorrow (Thursday) Sherry will be visiting the new church in the Buntungwa Township to teach on the ladies ministries in the church. She is taking one of the new believers from our church with her both as company and to give her a chance know what God wants her to do. Please pray for Sherry as she teaches and for Grace as she travels with Sherry. On Sunday morning I'll be at that same church to preach. Please also pray for that service. There will be many visitors!
Finally, Colin's school term ends on Saturday and we are going to collect him from Chengelo School. His school grades have soared this year back to where they were just a few years ago. It is always difficult to know what to do concerning the education of a child when serving on a mission field. We are so grateful that we have a good school with a Christian atmosphere in which Colin can learn and be encouraged in his spiritual walk. Please continue to pray for him!
As always, we are excited about the various opportunities that God opens up for us as we minister here in Zambia. We love what we are doing and appreciate your prayers with us as we serve!
